An orange weather warning, Met Éireann’s second highest, is in place for many northern and western counties from midnight on Thursday through to 9pm on Friday.
Counties Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Dublin, Longford, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Meath, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Waterford will all be hit by gale-force gusts.
Met Éireann explained: “Southwest winds later veering westerly will increase 65 to 80 km/h overnight and will gust 110 to 130 km/h at times. The strongest winds mainly in northern and western coastal areas.”
Meanwhile, a yellow weather warning has been issued for counties Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Westmeath, Roscommon, Limerick and Tipperary, also in effect from midnight on Thursday through to 9pm on Friday.
