CITY of Armagh U18 prop forward Paul Mullen has been named in the Ireland Tri Nations B panel to take part in a tournament over the Easter holidays.
The prop forward, who has represented Ulster at U18 level, is fresh from helping Armagh to honours in the Ulster Carpets U18 League Cup final last weekend when they defeated Letterkenny RFC U18s in a pulsating final at the Meadowbank Sports Arena in Magherafelt.
Ireland will take on an English Counties XV and the France U18 Poles Espoir in the annual tournament and Mullen will be looking to impress the Ireland coaching staff in both of the games.
A spokesperson for the club said they were incredibly proud of his achievements.
“The club are very proud of Paul’s achievements to date and would like to take tis opportunity to thank the club youth coaching team who, as a unit, have assisted Paul through the High Performance Player Pathway.
“Michael Black, Ulster Age Grade Performance Manager, remarked that the Armagh U18 youth team coaching staff had formed a strong link with the Ulster Rugby Academy and had been instrumental in assisting Paul gain national honours.
“The club are aware that the Armagh under 18’s Fifteen are a particularly strong unit. Paul forms an intrinsic part of this team who gained a fantastic achievement when they won the U18 League Cup Final last Saturday defeating Letterkenny 11-8.”
In other club news, the City of Armagh 1st XV played their final game of the Ulster Senior League season away at Ballynahinch last week and they produced a spirited display to lose to the hosts by 14-0.
This weekend the club are encouraging local rugby fans to get out and support the team against Greystone in what is their final home game of the season.
