Inspirational Stevey smashes World Record for consecutive ultra marathons

Armagh athlete Stevey McGeown has smashed the Guinness World Record for the most ultra marathons run on consecutive days.The former St Patrick’s Grammar School student is aiming to complete 60 ultra marathons in 60 days.and he has set his sights on raising £300,000 for the Keith Duffy Foundation.

It in turn will be supporting three charities – the Paddy Wallace Fund for Autism, Buddy Bench Ireland and Fighting Blindness. As he made his way round Ireland, Stevey was cheered on by locals on his grueling journey. He has shown remarkable determination and courage on his way and has been a true inspiration.

The previous world record stood at 21 ultra marathons in 21 consecutive days. Stevey is now running his 44th ultra marathon and on to Wicklow today and he is successfully completing these daily runs – equivalent to a distance of a traditional marathon and a half – in less than six hours.

The fundraiser is also helping to raise awareness of autism through the placing of special buddy benches at schools throughout Ireland.

The former Ballymacnab man – who lives with his wife Catherine and three children on the outskirts of Armagh – is due to finish his 60 ultra marathon goal on July 30 when he arrives back in the city.
